In order to create technical awareness among the women and to impart technical education and enrich their knowledge in the year 1998 Government established girls polytechnic under the world bank scheme . in august 2013 in the name of first lady Member of parliament of state 'Minimata' the name was given to the institution as 'Minimata Government Girls Polytechnic' .In 1998 the institution was started with a three year cource Modern Office Management .
